Art and Design 

Carol Naylor, textiles

Carol Naylor is a talented British artist known for her stunning textile art. Using a mix of traditional and contemporary techniques, she creates beautiful works of art that tell stories through fabric, thread, and color. Children will learn how to backstitch, corss stitch and box stitch to make line patterns on binca and use their ideas of line and shape to create a textile artwork.  

 

Design Technology 

Children will explore the principles of flight by designing and creating their own kites. They will learn about the key components of a kite, including the frame, fabric, and tail, and how these elements work together to ensure the kite flies successfully. We will use creativity and problem-solving skills to plan, build, and test their kites, considering factors like shape, balance, and wind conditions. 

 

Computing 

Creating media

This unit gives children the opportunity to learn how to create short videos. They will develop the skills of capturing, editing, and manipulating video.

Programing 

In this unit, we will use physical computing to explore the concept of selection in programming through the use of the Crumble programming environment. Children will be introduced to a microcontroller (Crumble controller) and learn how to connect and program components.

 

MFL- spanish

Children will develop their speaking, lisentening , reading and wrting skills.

 

Physical Education

PE will take place on Tuesdays and we ask that children are sent to school that day in their PE kits. 

 

History 

Children will explore the rich history of York, a city with a fascinating past that spans Roman, Viking, and Medieval times. They learn about York’s significance as a Roman settlement, its transformation during the Viking era, and its importance in the Middle Ages. Children  discover how York played a key role in shaping British history.

 

Geography 

Children will be learning about mountains, aiming to answer the question "Why are mountains 
so important?"

We will explore the significance of mountains and why they are so important to the environment, people, and wildlife. We will learn  learn how mountains are formed, their impact on weather patterns, and their role in providing habitats for a variety of species. Children  also study the cultural and economic importance of mountains, such as their influence on tourism, agriculture, and natural resources. Through this topic, we develop an understanding of how mountains shape the world around us.

 

Music 

Children will be focussing on the song "Make You Feel my Love". Through this song, students explore themes of love and emotion in music. They learn about the structure of the song, its lyrics, and the powerful message it conveys. By singing, analysing, and discussing the song. This lesson encourages creativity, emotional expression, and a love for music.

 

Homework

Homework will be sent out every Friday and we ask that it is back by the following Friday. Homework is usually based around what we have been learning that week, all we ask is that your child tries their hardest. The children will recieve homework for:

  • Maths
  • Spellings (tested every Friday)
  • Reading books

Homework is sent via paper copy.

Children will have their own home reading diary.
