Writing

We will begin this term by exploring and looking closely at the genre of instructions; developing an understanding of the purpose and structure of the text type.  The children will learn how to make a bird feeder and use this experience to help write their own set of instructions.   We will go on to read ‘The Marvellous Squishy Itty Bitty’ by Beatrice Alemagna and 'The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark' by JIll Tomlinson, and we will use these texts as stimuli for writing our own stories.  Plundering Pirates, and life on board a pirate ship will be the focus for writing a non-chronological report. 

Reading for enjoyment

‘Dave Pigeon’ by Swapna Haddow will be our class novel for reading for enjoyment.
