Writing
We will begin this new term by reading ‘The Building Boy’ by Ross Montgomery & David Litchfield; the children will draw on aspects of the story and use it as inspiration for writing their own stories and letters. Our second text will be ‘Winter Sleep, A Hibernation Story’ by Sean Taylor & Alex Morss and we will use this text to help us understand more about hibernation and nocturnal animals; this will help with writing a non-chronological report.
During the second half of the term, we willl read and explore ‘A Crow’s tale’ by Naomi Howarth. The children will learn about the hardships animals have in winter and use what they have learnt to inform stories of their own. Our final text of the term will be ‘Meerkat Christmas’ by Emily Gravett. The children will use the text to help develop their understanding of postcards, their purpose and structure.
Reading for enjoyment
‘Flat Stanley’ by Jeff Brown and 'Polly and the Pirates' by Tony Bradman will be our class novels for reading for enjoyment.
